| Yeah, I usually wouldn't abuse my priviledge to run this place in this way, but this might be a once in a lifetime deal. I've really been wanting to go run one of the open road races held here & there across the country (I guess really only in the western states from what I'm interested in). The closest one to me is the Big Bend Open Road Race, which is actually one of the coolest ones to run in. I've been trying to do this for the past 2 years. 1 year, plenty of money, no time... last year, plenty of time, no money. I went out and drove the road in my Jeep & videotaped it. A 60 mile long slice of heaven for a touring car owner. This year? A little of each... I'm determined to make it work this year. A few months ago I started planning & have come quite a ways in a short time... but now the race is getting near and I'm cutting it almost too close for comfort. I'm going to run in GT2 class (140 top speed, 120 average) and a highly medicated NiXit will be navagating for me. We're approaching this as get from point A to point B safely, have a good time, and be somewhat competitive on our first outing. The race is on the 26th of this month, not too much time left. So, I need a little help. If you look at my profile's mods, you'll see the local guys have contributed much to my effort (Thank you *very* much guys!!), but there's some pieces that are still missing... I'm looking for some random bits to borrow/hook ups:
A GPS unit that is accurate within .(point)1 MPH over 99MPH. I have no idea what this consists of, I imagine someone has a sweet Garman GPS that does this. I'm not sure if doing math on the fly based on the Z's speedo is going to be the best way to go.
An in car police scanner for safety (to listen to course workers) or even better a handheld CB radio for safety (to listen to course workers AND be able to talk to them if required).
A hook up on vinyl cutting to have some stickers made... Also, on the money front, rookie entry fees are pretty steep once you couple that with having to be there for the better part of a week. I'm writing an article for Sport Z Magazine on the race. There will be pictures of my car in the magazine. I'll be selling sticker space on my car to offset some of the entry fee.
